Rose, Rose, thorn, BUD

Every night practice with your partner or kids: Rose, Rose, Thorn, Bud. Two things that go well (Rose), One thing that did not go well (thorn), and one aspiration, dream, or hope (bud).

Recently I am reading about the possibilities of colonizing Mars in the distant future. The challenges are enormous. We don’t know how will we transform barren land into a habitable planet? How will the human body survive in low gravity environments? How will we transform the carbon dioxide in the air to oxygen? How will we harness the water suspended in the rocks or the atmosphere? What are the energy balances of relocating a wasteful, greedy, and ungrateful human community to a new land?  The challenges are enormous but these curiosities, questions, and aspirations drive science. The fundamental quest to create life reminds us how we have neglected and squandered the beautiful resources earth brings.
